The Story

Hello, I am Alice - the linen lover, long-lunch hostess and colour enthusiast behind Bright Threads. I live on a vineyard on Seppeltsfield Road in the Barossa Valley with my husband Matchy and our two children, where our life is shaped by good food, good wine and the joy of gathering people around a table.
Some of my earliest memories are of my parents’ extravagant dinner parties - Mum in the kitchen, Dad carefully selecting bottles from the cellar, voices rolling late into the night. I used to wake the next morning and hunt for the forgotten After Eight dinner mints, tiny treasures that made those gatherings feel magical.
Years later, I found myself hosting my own long lunches at Mum’s house. The tables were a glorious jumble of mismatched crockery and cutlery, and the guest list was always a mix of friends old and new - often people I’d met only the night before. It was chaotic, colourful, and completely joyful, and it cemented my love of bringing people together around a table.
I started my career in restaurants in Adelaide, which led to underground dinners with chef friends, a move to Sydney, and eventually to Beijing where I delivered wine by bicycle through the hutongs. Those years were wild and wonderful, and somewhere in the middle of them, a long-time friend became my future husband. Returning to South Australia, we bought our vineyard and began building a life filled with food, wine and community.
The idea for Bright Threads first arrived when we were planning our wedding and I couldn’t find bold, beautiful linen that wasn’t plain white. Years later, on maternity leave with my daughter and finally with a home big enough to host again, the idea resurfaced - and this time I ran with it. I wanted linen that was luxurious, colourful, made to last, and special enough to build memories around.
I chose to work mostly with 100% linen for its beauty and longevity, and with my designer I created collections of bold, mix-and-match patterns. Finding the right makers led me to Bali, where traditional screen printers and an incredible all-women sewing team now handcraft every piece with care and craftsmanship.
Bright Threads has evolved alongside me. After opening a physical store in Tanunda, I made the thoughtful decision in early 2024 to step back and focus on joy, balance and the parts of the business I love most. Today, Bright Threads thrives online and wholesale, still made slowly, intentionally and with heart.
More than anything, I want to inspire people to be brave with colour - to mix patterns, break the rules and create tables that feel warm, generous and full of life. For me, it has always been about the same thing: bringing people together, one beautiful table at a time.
I am always here to help you create the perfect table - please just send me an email or DM on Insta, and in the meantime, enjoy these beautiful pieces.
